I have now completed basically all of the fabrication portion of this construction project.  All the wood pieces are built and clear-coated.  The chassis box and the lower back panel are labeled and coated with epoxy.  Note that I have not drilled the holes for all the pots and switches yet; I have found that it works fine to defer this until after the epoxy stage: the holes drill cleanly, and the panel labels double as the drill plan.

Now, "all" that remains is to build the electronics to populate the box!

I'm posting rough copies of the schematics again (just photos), including I think a few minor changes and corrections over the "nicer" copies posted a while ago.  Also, for the four pages comprising the preamp section, I have now made layout diagrams: i.e., slightly re-factored schematics which more clearly suggest how the circuit board and wiring will be laid out.

quick-start guide for the version-1 prototype

McGrath Mini Quick Start Plug guitar cable and power cable into the back. Flip all the switches into the "on" or up positions, except for the fx switch: keep this one down. (back view) 5 switches on, 1 switch off ( fx ). Since this is a tube amp, you'll have to wait a bit for the tubes to warm up, before you can get any sound (around 15-30 seconds).  When the amp is warmed up, the power LED changes from red to purple. Start with all the knobs pointing straight up ("12-oclock position"), except vol : start with this at minimum (full CCW). (front view) Strum a chord on the guitar while gradually turning up vol  until the volume is good. The most important knobs other than vol , in setting the tone of the amp, are the two  gain  knobs.  Experiment with these.  More gain leads to "dirty" or distorted tones; reduce gain for "clean" tones.
